Boreal

Slow Conversations between Trees and People

New slow touring between Sweden, Norway and Denmark. Summer 2025.

Boreal explored a super slow, ’embedded’ touring model, in which artist Tom Bailey traveled to 3 forest sites across Scotland, Norway and Denmark, working with both trees and people in each area. In each place he presented his performance, Vigil, and explored local community connections to trees in forests nearby each location. The aim was to explore a touring model that facilitated deeper connection between the traveling artist, local community and local ecology through dialogue and exchange.

From the oldest tree in the world, ‘Old Tjikko’ (Sweden), to the largest old-growth forest in Norway (Trillemarka) to the awesome Future Library forest by artist Katie Paterson, finishing at Mols Bjerge national park in Denmark. Foot, bus, boat, train, and hitch-hiking.

In collaboration with Mer Dans at Folket (Sweden), Future Library (Norway) & Earthwise (Denmark). Supported by Perform Europe.
